Laura Owens, s0prano, is an up-and-coming singer and actor. Ms. Owens began her 2019 season in her role debut as Zweite Dame in New York University’s production of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. In June she performed the role of Barbarina in New York Lyric Opera Theater’s production of Le nozze di Figaro at Lincoln Center, and was a featured artist in their scenes and arias concert at Carnegie Hall. In October she performed again with New York University as Jessie in Kurt Weil’s Mahagonny-Songspiel. In 2020 Ms. Owens will perform the roles of Nancy in NYU Steinhardt’s production of Albert Herring (postponed due to Covid-19), Papagena in Die Zauberflöte with Manhattan Opera Studio’s Summer Festival (canceled due to Covid-19), and she looks forward to giving her Master’s Recital at the Provincetown Playhouse in May (postponed due to Covid-19).
Ms. Owens has been performing regularly over the past few years. Some previous favorite roles include La bergère (L’enfant et les sortilèges), Adele (Die Fledermaus), and Lily Craven (The Secret Garden). Ms. Owens has performed with The Taylor Festival Choir, The Charleston Symphony Orchestra, and has been a featured soloist with the American Piccolo Spoleto Festival. She is the 2018 winner of the Orpheus Vocal Competition’s Donizetti Prize, the 2017 winner of the Music Teacher National Association Competition (SC State), and a regional finalist with the National Association of Teachers of Singing Competition (2013, 2015, and 2017).
Ms. Owens holds a Master of Music in Classical Vocal Performance from New York University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Music and an Artist Certificate in Vocal Performance from The College of Charleston. Ms. Owens resides in Charleston, SC, and is an enneagram type 3w4, an INFP, and a Gryffindor.
